Game of Thrones- Revival is Real

Updated: Sep 14, 2022

Game of Thrones is the reason nothing wows me on TV anymore. Enter House of the Dragons.

The only thing that can defeat Song of Ice and Fire is Song of Ice and Fire itself. If you got that reference, hi there, let's be friends!

Generally, in TV shows "wars" are not treated honestly, and any history enthusiast will tell you that our world history is mostly bloodshed, epidemics, gender inequality and worry for heirs.

GRRM believes and I have heard him say this a lot across platforms, "art should reflect life". So if I was asked, what exactly I love about this show, my answer would be that it's the only fantasy I have ever read or watched that is so closely rooted in real life. A series where every event and little detail turned out to be an example of Chekhov's knife/gun.

When the Pandemic hit us all, I couldn't help but wonder, is this our long Night? We now, had an enemy that's sole purpose is to eliminate us irrespective of our ethnicity, gender and status. But, where was our "prince that was promised"? Laden with dragons and blood magic, it is impressive how fantasy can give you more real-life lessons than textbooks.

What went wrong?

I wish, I didn't have to include this section, but it is what it is.

Rushed Plotlines

George R.R Martin's universe is so elaborate that it's taking him more than a decade to tie the ends together. The showrunners didn't seem to realise the same. Characters jumped in and out of the stories, and dragons became more vulnerable than human characters. However, this show is so great that even with a deplorable ending, it still stands tall among all the TV shows of our generation. I have immense faith in the source material and I believe nothing can stop this from standing the test of time.

Game of Thrones and Social Discourse

I talked about how the game of thrones made me question real-life events a few times. Discourse in Sociology refers to our pattern of thinking and communication. In this sense, writers, media and institutions structure our way of thinking.

I would like to leave some food for thought by ending this article with a quote by none other than Tyrion Lannister

" A mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone."
